Attributes of God – Introduction

introAs mentioned in my last post, I am reading/studying the A.W. Towzer book “The Attributes of God” Volume 1. The posts in this series will be laced with excerpts from this book, and I will do my best to do proper citations. Posts will be up as I progress with the book, no promises of a particular schedule. :)

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” – Colossians 3:2-4

It is difficult to write about that which my mind cannot fathom or comprehend, but isn’t that always the case when it comes to writing about God. Think of a grain of salt cut into 10 pieces thrown onto the largest sandy beach in the world; that fraction of a grain of salt is me and my understanding of the vastness of my Savior. I feel very inadequate to even tackle this, but it is more for me to look back on, than anything.  I do not exaggerate when I say that I am being VERY generous to myself using that illustration.

Attribute (noun)

1: a quality, character, or characteristic ascribed to someone or something

2: an object closely associated with or belonging to a specific person, thing, or office

We often hear of people’s attributes, but I would have to agree with Towzer, and say that the attributes of God are not merely a quality or characteristic of Him; rather it is who and what God is. Recognizing and understanding God’s attributes has become so important to me, and has made a huge difference already in how I worship God in my daily life. I have become more aware of His greatness and glory, and it has enriched my relationship with Him.

Like I mentioned, these posts will be more for me to look back on, but I also hope and pray that if you are reading them, you will be encouraged. May my writing reflect His word and may it be only for His glory.
