My Thoughts on Flossing

It was a few weeks till my dental appointment, and I was not exactly excited. There is just something about sitting in the chair feeling completely out of control and helpless; at the mercy of the man with the cold, sterile, metal tools. I went about my mouth hygiene routine meticulously those next few weeks preparing for the appointment. One area of my mouth hygiene routine where I tend to slack is flossing, and as I understand it this is generally a worldwide problem. As I was preparing for my dental check-up I was flossing daily, often twice a day, versus the 3-ish times a week it usually was. I was not going to have to listen to the “you need to floss more” lecture from the guy with cold, sterile, metal tools. At this point you are probably asking yourself why you are reading about flossing, and why you should care, well last night the word “flossing” popped into my head as I was preparing to do my nightly bible reading, and it lead me off on a rabbit trail…

The Lord God is coming back. We do not know when, but we do know that He is coming, and that we need to be ready if we want to spend eternity with Him.

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” -Matthew 25:13

Often times we find ourselves cleaning the surface of our lives, brushing the places we think the people can see. Since we know without a doubt that our “appointment” at the judgement seat of God Almighty is coming, should we not be “flossing” regularly, keeping every nook and cranny clean before Christ? Sin is sin and it needs to be dealt with. Just as dental floss removes plaque and bacteria from the hard to reach places, obedience to Gods word and repentant hearts helps keep the buildup of sin at bay.

“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” -Hebrews 4:13

We may be able to hide our sin from fellow man, but God knows all and see’s all. One day, whether we are ready or not,  we will stand before the God that created the universes, a Holy God, a Righteous God, and I want to be ready for my appointment with Him, and it is my prayer that you feel the same. May He receive all glory, honor, and praise.

 For it is written:

As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. -Romans 14:11-12
